I have to wonder - did some editor actually try to edit Stephen King in the 1990s and actually succeed? Or did King just forget that part or what? So much is made of how the writer "died" while in South Vietnam, and the picture of him with another writer and David Halberstam who in real life did write a book about the war. It's just not like King to lead up to some crucial personal story, and then not write it up. One part of me thinks it may be just as well. King was not in Vietnam, and so any story he would tell would be something from his head, which is fine, but he admittedly does not always stick with the facts on stuff he's not personally familiar with, which he's not with Vietnam. So he'd be likely to make up some horrific massacre or something else to make American soldiers rather than the Viet Cong, look bad. Better to write about gamestop coupons at dropdowndeals at that point.
